The Kent Farmers Market is one of South King County’s longest-running and most cherished community traditions. Established in 1974 by the Kent Lions Club, the market was originally created as a fundraising initiative to support local scholarships, civic programs, and charitable events. From its humble beginnings, the market quickly grew into a beloved Saturday destination, bringing together local farmers, artisans, and community members in the heart of downtown Kent.

For decades, the market served as a vibrant hub where residents could purchase fresh, locally grown produce, handmade goods, flowers, and specialty foods while enjoying live music and community entertainment. It not only promoted healthy lifestyles but also supported the regional economy by providing small businesses and independent growers with a platform to thrive.
Recognizing the city’s growing diversity and the need for greater food equity, Living Well Kent, a nonprofit organization committed to health and wellness, launched a parallel farmers market on Kent’s East Hill in 2015. This market focused specifically on serving underserved and immigrant communities, many of whom faced barriers to accessing fresh, affordable, and culturally appropriate food. The East Hill market gained attention for its inclusive policies, accepting SNAP/EBT, Fresh Bucks, and other food access programs, making nutritious food accessible to all.
In 2023, a landmark collaboration between the Kent Lions Club, Living Well Kent, and the City of Kent brought the two markets together under one umbrella. This merger symbolized more than just operational unity; it marked a powerful step toward a more inclusive and culturally representative community space. The newly unified Kent Farmers Market now operates at Town Square Plaza in downtown Kent, featuring a larger and more diverse range of vendors, services, and entertainment.
With over 50 vendors and a rotating lineup of performers, cultural presentations, and family-friendly activities, the market reflects the vibrancy and multicultural spirit of Kent. Visitors can enjoy everything from organic fruits and vegetables to international cuisine, hand-crafted items, and live music every Saturday during the market season.
Today, the Kent Farmers Market continues to be a beacon of community pride. It stands as a symbol of how tradition and innovation can come together to promote health, equity, sustainability, and economic growth for all. Managed by Living Well Kent beginning in 2025, the market looks forward to continuing its mission of serving as a welcoming gathering place for families, farmers, entrepreneurs, and neighbors from every walk of life.
